By choosing colored stones, Sophie d’Agon has made a name for herself with a line of jewelry that women can enjoy wearing every day. Creative pieces, offered at a fair price, “so that women can afford them without waiting for an occasion” explains the designer, Sophie Lepourry.
From fashion to jewelry
Having worked for prestigious fashion houses such as Hermès, Prada and Saint-Laurent, where she worked for 14 years, Sophie Lepourry has developed a perfect mastery of retail merchandising and the challenges of brand digitalization. “On a daily basis, I coordinated the purchasing offices in New York, Tokyo and Dubai, and I supervised the launch of collections with the various departments such as marketing and communication,” explains the designer. A solid background that gives her the confidence to embark on entrepreneurship in 2017; she who has always been passionate about jewelry since her early childhood. “My uncle was the owner of a jewelry store in Normandy, I used to go there regularly and at each visit, I had the feeling of entering Ali Baba’s cave”.
Uncomplicated jewelry for every day
Sophie Lepourry draws inspiration for her collections from her travels around the world. Her fashion eye, sharpened by her first professional life, confirms her intuition of wanting to penetrate a still traditional jewelry market, and to stand out with a creative and colorful line. “From the start, I knew I wanted to address women who were looking for easy-to-wear jewelry, so they could afford her pieces without having to wait for a wedding proposal or celebrate a milestone ten years ago. To keep the promise of fair prices in which the designer wishes to register her brand, Sophie Lepourry opts for a European production, made in a family workshop in Portugal. If she confides that Made in France was her initial objective, the very high prices and the conservative approach of some regarding the setting of stones, reinforce her choice to seek a workshop that listens to her creative vision. “The specificity of my workshop, beyond being a human-sized structure, is that it offers a handcrafted production, which gives the jewels a particular charm. Concerned about limiting the environmental footprint of her brand, Sophie d’Agon works with 90% recycled 18-carat gold, with a goal of reaching 100% by 2021.
The color, the signature of Sophie d’Agon
The designer makes no secret of the fact that she has a real passion for colored stones. You have to see her compose her coloramas stone by stone, entrusted by ruby or sapphires, in which enamel or pearls are sometimes invited, in reference to ancient jewelry, one of her sources of inspiration. “When I can’t find the right tone, I use semi-precious stones, such as turquoise, whose matte color contrasts with the brilliance of precious stones. When asked about her best-sellers, the designer cites the Yellowstone collection, born of her travels in the United States to discover the great parks, or Camellia, whose floral inspiration has earned her a nice success with customers looking for engagement rings tinged with romance. Available on the brand’s eshop, but also in a few select outlets, such as the Blush concept store in Lyon, the brand will soon have a showcase nestled in the heart of the Marais to welcome its customers.
